With their new song ‘Uka Ukalilele?’, Yvonne Mwale and Slapdee dropped a track that already now is about to become a superhit. This time, Yvonne partnered with Zambia’s Hip-Hop legend Slapdee to address a sensitive issue, that has a deep impact on our society. ‘Uka Ukalilele?’ (‘Are you still sleeping?’) is a wake-up call, that can’t be overheard.

What is it all about? While at most places in the world women are getting up to take their lifes in their own hands and get empowered to become more independent, especially in Zambia we still have a problem with young ladies that never managed to get a job or learned how to take care of themselves. Instead, we see them hanging out at night in clubs and bars, hunting aged men that should secure them their survival. Yvonne comments on this issue: “I’ve seen a number of my former friends attaching themselves to caretakers and later falling down. With this song I want to make a statement and encourage young ladies to become responsible for themselves and do something productive for their future. And I’m grateful, that Slapdee is sharing this view with me and agreed to join on this track”.
Yvonne Mwale recently made waves with her collaboration with Mic Burner, called ’Ne Nganga’. The track hit the Zambian radio charts. Yvonne was born in Zambia’s Eastern Province and won, besides a Ngoma Award, a number of international awards.

“Uka Ukalilele?” is available on mvesesani.com now and on Apple Music, Deezer, Spotify, Boomplay and about 150 other music platforms around the world by Friday, 12th of February.
